This outstanding Everest Gokyo trek visits the high valleys of the Khumbu with time to explore the villages and monasteries and sample the incredible hospitality of the Sherpa people. The adventure begins with an exhilarating flight to Lukla, perhaps one of the most exciting airports in the world at which to land! After a rest at the hotel and copious cups of tea to begin our acclimatisation, we trek slowly down to Phakding, where we stay overnight. The next day, a steep climb to the Sherpa capital Namche Bazaar lies ahead.
We begin to acclimatise here before following the scenic trail to Gokyo. On reaching Gokyo, we visit the highest point at Gokyo Ri for breathtaking views of Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse and Makalu, four of the world’s highest peaks at a single glance. Our journey continues over the high Cho La pass, then we visit Kala Pattar, another striking viewpoint. Finally, we hike to Everest Base Camp before our descent. We are treated to incredible views of Kang Taiga, Thamserku and the Nuptse-Lhotse wall with Everest looming above.
The Everest region is understandably one of the most popular and spectacular destinations in the world for walkers, offering some of the most fascinating and enjoyable trekking with beautiful views of the highest snow-capped peaks. The highest spot, Gokyo Ri (5,357m), offers literally breathtaking views of a panorama of peaks and glaciers, including Everest just a stone’s throw away.
